Rep. Green statement on proposed conservation plan for Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge

GREEN BAY - U.S. Rep. Mark Green ( R-Green Bay ) issued the following statement Monday after the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service released its modified conservation plan - known as "Alternative E" - for the Upper Mississippi River National Wildlife and Fish Refuge.

"Alternative E certainly represents an improvement over earlier conservation plans laid out by the Fish and Wildlife Service. However, I still have some serious concerns about the proposal. At first blush, it appears as though the plan fails to go far enough in protecting folks' access to these important lands - which lie right outside their doorstep - for fishing, hunting, camping and other outdoor activities. I look forward to working with all these folks, as well as the Fish and Wildlife Service, to make sure that these concerns are sufficiently addressed."

Earlier this year, Green wrote a letter to the Fish and Wildlife Service urging them to carefully consider the comments of those who live and work along the Upper Mississippi River when crafting its revised conservation plan.
