Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Member of the House Ways and Means Subcommittee on Select Revenue Measures, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's two rulings regarding the ability of a state criminal court and Congress to enforce subpoenas of the President's financial records.
"Today the Supreme Court overwhelming upheld a key tenant of our system of government--that no one is above the law, not even the president," said Rep. Sánchez. "President Trump has had four years to release his taxes and the American people have a right to know why he's hiding them. Congress will continue to push for transparency to determine whether the President's financial entanglements pose a threat to the integrity of the office he holds. Accessing this information is key to how best we can update our laws to protect the credibility of our democracy."
