Lujan Statement on Supreme Court Decision Allowing Birth Control Exemptions

Statement

Date: July 8, 2020
Location: Nambe, NM

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court ruled to exempt employers from the Affordable Care Act's no-cost birth control requirement based on religious objections:

"The Supreme Court's ruling is a disappointing setback for reproductive rights and the result of President Trump's longstanding efforts to limit women's access to reproductive care. Up to 126,000 women across America could lose their free birth control coverage as a result of this decision, making contraception unaffordable for far too many women. This fight isn't over, and I will continue working to protect reproductive freedoms for all women across New Mexico and the nation."
