Rep. Mike Levin's Support for Coronavirus Relief Legislation Helps 20,456 Small Businesses in California's 49th District

Today, U.S. Representative Mike Levin (D-CA) announced that with the release of new data from the Small Business Association's (SBA) Paycheck Protection Program (PPP), Congressman Levin helped sustain 20,456 small businesses in California's 49th Congressional district, which supported 241,446 employees. Under the PPP relief package, small businesses in the 49th received more than $613 million in federal stimulus funding.

The Paycheck Protection Program was established within the CARES Act by Congress to provide aid to small businesses and organizations during the Covid-19 pandemic with a forgivable federal loan to help maintain payroll, and hire back employees who may have been laid off.

"The COVID-19 pandemic has been devastating for many mom-and-pop shops and small businesses in my district, and the release of this data illustrates just how critical federal support is needed to keep Americans and our communities afloat," said Rep. Levin. "PPP funding provided a lifeline for residents in my district to ensure they can stay employed and small businesses can reopen in the future. While I am pleased that so many CA-49 businesses were assisted with this critical funding, I know we must continue pushing for transparency and improved oversight of this program so that we can continue bringing this aid only to the businesses that truly need it."

Congressman Levin voted in favor of ambitious COVID-19 response bills to provide much needed relief in his district, including The Heroes Act, Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act, the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, and the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act.
