Sen. Loeffler Delivers Remarks In Honor Of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Today, Sen. Kelly Loeffler delivered remarks at the annual Martin Luther King, Jr. commemorative service at Ebenezer Baptist Church. Loeffler was joined at King's spiritual home by fellow state leaders as well as members of the King family.In her remarks to the congregation, Loeffler praised King's tremendous impact on American life and emphasized the importance of honoring King's legacy by living a life of service, grounded in tolerance. The full text of her remarks is below:

"Good morning. I am so humbled to be here with you today in this sacred place surrounded by men and women who advance the cause of freedom -- on this special day, celebrating the life and legacy of Georgia's beloved son, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. I want to thank the King Family from the bottom of my heart for being a catalyst in our state and our country. The generational impact of your service cannot be overstated. We are forever grateful.

"I grew up on a family farm in a rural town, far away from downtown Atlanta. But Dr. King's story, his leadership, his words, and his actions, had a profound effect on my life and on my values. As a young person working on that remote farm, I never imagined that I could be on this stage. But Dr. King's call to service, to sacrifice, to put others first -- it shaped our home and inspired us to ask what Dr. King asked the world: "what are you doing for others?'

"That pressing question holds much power both here in a church that puts words into action, and for leaders that carry on his work today -- people with the understanding that "love thy neighbor" has no fine print. The pressing question, "what are you doing for others," has uprooted the status quo, it has changed business as usual, and it has created a lasting impact on lives around the globe. It is life's most persistent and urgent question. It is the backbone of Dr. King's legacy that we honor, celebrate, and vow to pass down to generations to come.

"In service, we honor God. In service, we foster change. I know I am blessed to live in a world where a giant, a world-changer, and a trailblazer lived. A city where a man of great faith and resolve called home. I seek to live in a way that honors Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Coretta Scott King, and the entire King Family -- not just on this special occasion, but every day -- in public service, in community, and in Washington. Like those gathered here, my aim is to love God, to serve others, and to make a difference inspired by Dr. King.

"Thank you for the opportunity to be part of today. May God bless the King Family, and may God bless all who are gathered across our country today."
