As the chair of the Special Committee on Oversight of Medicaid Managed Care, Sen. Heather Steans understands that everyone deserves access to quality affordable healthcare, regardless of race, age, gender, sexual orientation, immigration or disability status.

Heather was the Senate sponsor House Bill 40 that passed protecting women's right to choose in Illinois even if Roe v. Wade were overturned. She received the Planned Parenthood Richard J. Phelan Profile in Courage Award in 2018 honoring her leadership and dedication to protecting reproductive rights in Illinois.

She has also reformed the state's Medicaid program and enacted significant nursing home reforms to protect seniors and the most vulnerable Illinois residents.
