Jim Inhofe Running For Re-Election

Statement

Date: March 5, 2020
Issues: Elections

Jim Inhofe (R-Tulsa) announced he is running for re-election today with the below television advertisement running statewide on both cable and broadcast beginning Friday:

"Socialist Democrats are trying to destroy everything that makes America great: our strong military, economy, jobs and way of life," Inhofe said. "Oklahomans don't want a big government takeover. I'm running again to be the conservative voice in the Senate, to stand with President Trump and to lead the fight against liberal efforts to control our lives, destroy the military and take over the economy.

"Oklahomans deserve a leader in Washington, and a senator who can make sure the federal government works for us, not the other way around. As chairman of the Senate Armed Services Committee, I am in the best position to continue serving Oklahomans in Washington. I'm proud of my record advancing conservative reforms and shutting down liberals. And I'm not done yet. If the good people of Oklahoman will have me, I look forward to continuing my service."

Here is what you need to know about Jim Inhofe:

Inhofe is a conservative champion who stands with President Trump.
It should come as no surprise that in the past few years, Inhofe has been recognized as the most conservative senator by various publications--his record speaks for itself. Inhofe has never shied away from standing up for policies to protect life and end the horrific practice of abortion on demand, to demand that immigration policies not favor criminals or those here illegally, to introduce legislation to build the wall on our southern border and to confirm constitutional judges.

Inhofe gets things done.
When Oklahomans need help with a federal agency--they know to call Jim Inhofe, because he's a fearless and tireless advocate. His persistence ensures that Oklahoma veterans don't get ignored by the bureaucrats at the VA, that Oklahoma roads and infrastructure get adequate and timely federal dollars.

Inhofe fights for our military and their families, as well as Oklahoma veterans.
As a veteran, Inhofe knows the service and sacrifice of everyone in a military family--service member, spouse and children. That's why Inhofe has made rebuilding the military and taking care of military families key priorities.

Inhofe knows that readiness is more than esoteric numbers about capabilities--it's about making sure service members have the training and equipment they need to complete their mission of protecting American lives and return home safely. This work is more important now than ever. Under President Obama's leadership, defense spending was actually cut by 25% between 2010-2015, and readiness among the Army's Brigade Combat Teams (BCTs) fell to a low of 5%. During the three years of the Trump Administration, readiness levels have improved with spending levels. BCT readiness levels are now over 50%, but more work remains to be done.

Inhofe also knows that the key to retention is ensuring military families have the support they need. Inhofe's been their champion--protecting commissary benefits, repealing the widow's tax on Gold Star families, expanding workforce opportunities for spouses. He also led reforms of the privatized military housing process, enacting legislation that restores accountability and improves oversight.
