Location: Washington, DC

Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) issued the following statement regarding the 9th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals' ruling on the President's border wall. In a 2-1 decision, the circuit court found the Administration does not have the authority to use appropriated military funding to pay for the construction of the border wall.

"The Constitution gave Congress the power of the purse. Today, the Appeals Court agreed. They rightfully found that the Administration unlawfully raided military funding to pay for the President's border wall," said Rep. Cisneros. "His ineffective, wasteful vanity project comes at the expense of the safety and security of military families and our country's military readiness. Our servicemembers deserve better. Instead of building a wall and stoking division, the President should work with Democrats and Republicans to pass real immigration reform. The House stands ready to get that done."
