U.S. Senator Maggie Hassan released the following statement after the U.S. Supreme Court issued a ruling to strike down a law in Louisiana that would have drastically limited access to abortion services.

"Women have a constitutional right to make their own health care decisions and control their destinies, and the Supreme Court made the right decision today in striking down Louisiana's attempt to infringe upon these essential rights," said Senator Hassan. "While this decision is certainly very important, we know that Republicans will continue to try to take away women's reproductive freedoms. We must all remain as committed as ever to safeguarding women's constitutional rights."

Senator Hassan is focused on expanding access to reproductive health care services and fighting against any efforts to chip away at the rights afforded under Roe v. Wade. Senator Hassan has led efforts in the Senate to protect Title X family planning centers, such as Planned Parenthood, which provide family planning services for low-income patients and serve nearly 18,000 Granite Staters annually. The Senator also strongly opposes the implementation of the domestic gag rule, a Trump administration policy that is restricting women's access to critical health services at Title X funded centers across the country. Last year, Senator Hassan joined in introducing the Affordability is Access Act, legislation to make sure over-the-counter birth control is affordable and accessible for women across the country.
