Pallone on Supreme Court's June Medical Decision Upholding Abortion Access Rights

Statement

Energy and Commerce Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-NJ) released the following statement in response to the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision in June Medical Services L. L. C. v. Russo that strikes down a Louisiana law severely limiting access to abortion:

"I'm relieved and heartened that the Supreme Court struck down Louisiana's unconstitutional restrictions to limit access to abortion. If today's decision had gone the other way, Louisiana would have been able to impose a draconian law that would have further limited access to safe and legal abortion and paved the way for an onslaught of similar restrictions in other states.

"Thankfully, the Supreme Court upheld the law and protected the rights of those who need access to abortion. This is an important victory, but we must continue to fight for equitable access to abortion and against similar attempts to restrict this fundamental right in the future."
