Location: Washington, DC

Congresswoman Chellie Pingree (D-Maine) today announced the Maine Department of Labor will receive $450,000 from the U.S. Department of Labor through the Registered Apprenticeship Program.

"As our nation prepares to recover and rebuild from the unprecedented levels of joblessness caused by the coronavirus pandemic, registered apprenticeship programs will give employees a leg up to enter a new industry. Given additional education and resources, workers will actually earn more over their lifetime if they participate in an apprenticeship program," said Pingree. "This funding from the Department of Labor will help bolster Maine's local economies and prepare a new generation of workers."

The "Building State Capacity to Expand Apprenticeship through Innovation" grants support statewide Registered Apprenticeship Program expansion and provides states with maximum flexibility to address local apprenticeship needs while enhancing the focus on employer engagement, performance, and positive outcomes for apprentices.
