Issues: Immigration

Throughout our entire history as a country, the contribution of immigrants to the United States cannot be overstated. Charles believes that no person is illegal and that all people need to be treated with dignity and respect.

Due to our aging population, the United States is, in fact, in need of immigrants and refugees to bring skills, talents, resources, and hard work to the United States in order to continue to grow our economy. Our nation thrives on the multiculturalism that comes with immigration. Embracing this truth is exactly how we will win our future.

Charles fully supports comprehensive immigration reform with a pathway to citizenship for young people and adults. Progressive, comprehensive immigration reform starts with undoing many of the harsh, inhumane policies of the Trump Administration.

As Senator, Charles would support legislation that makes it illegal to separate children from their families at the border, end the "Remain in Mexico" policies, require the Administration to properly process asylum claims, reassess legal immigration quotas, codify Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals and Deferred Action for Parents of Arrivals, and create a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants. This type of leadership will keep Americans safe, uplift our ideals as a nation, and honor the humanity of people coming to our country to protect their families and live a better life.
