Issue Position: Combatting Gun Violence

Issue Position

Issues: Guns

As a former prosecutor, I've seen firsthand the devastation that gun violence has on victims and their families. And as a mom, I've seen my son come home from school and have to describe the active shooter drill he went through that day. This issue is personal to me.

Gun violence in our nation is an epidemic and lobbies like the NRA have put a stranglehold on politicians who have gridlocked Congress to the point of inaction. A vast majority of Americans support common sense measures to turn the tide and I will fight to pass them in Congress -- universal background checks, closing the gun show loophole, a ban on assault weapons and high capacity magazines, and taking guns out of the hands of suspected terrorists and domestic abusers. There's no excuse not to act -- our future depends on it.

Lee Zeldin has not only avoided action on these measures, he's advocated for a fifty state reciprocal concealed carry. He's out of touch with the mainstream and that endangers our country.
