Congressman Marc Veasey (TX-33) Statement on Supreme Court's Decision to Protect Dreamers

Statement

Date: June 18, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Marc Veasey of Texas' 33rd district released the following statement after the Supreme Court ruling against President Trump's decision to end the DACA program:

"This decision is a victory for the thousands of Dreamers in my home state of Texas that depend on the life-changing DACA program. Today, the Supreme Court sided with the American people and immigrant families instead of capitulating to the cruelty of the Trump administration. Dreamers are our family, friends, coworkers, neighbors and most importantly they are Americans. Dreamers are people that majorly contribute to the rich fabric of our nation and we must stay committed to fighting for them and their families.

"Last June, I was proud to join my colleagues in the Democratic-led House to pass the American Dream and Promise Act to shield Dreamers and TPS holders from deportation and create an opportunity for permanent legal status--and more than a year later the legislation is still sitting on Leader McConnell's desk in the Senate. Republicans must stop holding immigrants as political hostages and bring this legislation up for a vote."
