Following support from Senator Thom Tillis (R-NC), the U.S. Department of Transportation is awarding a $25 million Infrastructure For Rebuilding America (INFRA) Grant to complete a series of highway improvement projects on the US-74 corridor in Cleveland, Columbus, and Robeson Counties. The award includes funding to complete a major bypass around Shelby and the conversion of four signalized intersections on US-74 between I-95 and I-140.

Last month, Senator Tillis sent a letter to Secretary of Transportation Elaine L. Chao in support of the North Carolina Department of Transportation's application for the grant.

"I was proud to support the North Carolina Department of Transportation's application to make critical improvements to US-74 and complete the long-awaited bypass around Shelby," said Senator Tillis. "This grant will improve safety, travel time and resiliency, and I want to thank Secretary Chao for her work to support North Carolina's infrastructure."
