Gov. Kim Reynolds, Lt. Gov. Gregg released the following statements after the Iowa House and Senate voted unanimously to pass S.F. 2400, legislation derived from recommendations of the Governor's Empower Rural Iowa Initiative:

"If Iowa is to succeed, we always have to be forward-looking and nimble to the demands of the ever-changing 21st century economy. Expanding broadband connectivity connects Iowans in every corner of our state to the new opportunities that exist in telehealth, education, and telework," said Gov. Reynolds. "By empowering rural communities through broadband connectivity, we chart a course for Iowa's continued growth and success."

"Rural broadband has been a priority of this administration from day one, and the COVID-19 pandemic has highlighted the increased importance of broadband connectivity in the everyday lives of Iowans," said Lt. Gov. Adam Gregg, co-chair of the Governor's Empower Rural Iowa Initiative. "This bill is another step forward to help connect even more Iowans."

S.F. 2400 passed the Iowa Senate earlier today and passed unanimously out of the Iowa House of Representatives on Thursday, June 4th.
