On Monday, June 15, 2020, Congressman Al Green issued the following statement:

"The Supreme Court of the United States has made it clear that an employer cannot fire someone for being who they are, recognizing the equality under law of LGBTQ+ persons and shielding employees from termination because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. As the proud sponsor of the original congressional Pride resolution, it brings me great joy to see this historic day not only for the LGBTQ+ community but for our entire nation," stated Congressman Al Green in response to the recent Supreme Court decision that will extend Title VII protections on the bases of sexual orientation and gender identity. "The LGBTQ+ community -- and allies -- has fought tirelessly for equal rights and civil protections. From the Stonewall Riots 51 years ago, to the landmark Lawrence v. Texas ruling 17 years ago, to the tragic Pulse Massacre in Orlando 4 years ago, our country has come a long way, but we still have a way to go. This ruling will help eliminate one of the great impediments to equality of opportunity of our time."

Congressman Green added, "The original Pride resolution that I present on an annual basis with my congressional colleagues honors and recognizes the lives and legacies of LGBTQ+ persons as well as allies who have forged a more inclusive, equitable America for all people regardless of sexual orientation or gender. I am gratified that this year's resolution will include this historic ruling which will move us closer to a more perfect union with liberty and justice for all."
