Rep. Cisneros Praises SCOTUS Decision to Protect DREAMers

Statement

Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) issued the following statement after the Supreme Court's 5-4 decision to protect DREAMers and reject the Trump Administration's attempt to overturn DACA:

"The Supreme Court's decision is a huge victory for our DREAMers, their families, and our country. They are our doctors, teachers, small business owners, coworkers, neighbors, and loved ones. They are on the frontlines of this pandemic, as 200,000 DACA recipients are keeping us safe and healthy every day. The United States is their home, and I'm glad the Supreme Court recognizes that.

"In the 39th District and across the United States, DREAMers have built a life, contributed to society, and made our communities better. They are every bit as American as anybody else in our country. While today is a cause to celebrate, Congress can still do more. We still have a responsibility to ensure DREAMers have a pathway to citizenship. I strongly urge the Senate to immediately pass H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act. Every day, and especially today, I stand with the 11,000 DREAMers in the 39th District and will continue to fight for them."

On June 4, 2020, Rep. Cisneros voted for and the House passed H.R. 6, the Dream and Promise Act which will offer a pathway to citizenship for these and similarly situated immigrants who have spent much of their lives in the United States. The bill is currently awaiting a vote in the Senate.
