Rep. Linda T. Sánchez (CA-38), Vice Chair of the Congressional LGBTQ+ Equality Caucus, issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's ruling that federal civil rights law forbids employers from discriminating against workers based on sexual orientation or gender identity.

"Today the Supreme Court reaffirmed that our laws reflect what a majority of Americans know to be true--we are all protected from workplace discrimination, regardless of who you love or how you identify," said Rep. Sánchez. "LGBTQ workers will now have the added sense of security in knowing that the law protects their civil rights on the job.

"There is still more work to be done to ensure full equality in our country. LGBTQ Americans continue to face discrimination in far too many facets of life. On Friday, we saw the Trump administration announce plans to eliminate health care protections LGBTQ people. In many states, it's still legal to discriminate against members of the LGBTQ community in education, housing, and other public accommodations. That is why I will not stop fighting until the Equality Act becomes law to ensure that these Americans are afforded the same protections from discrimination that we all enjoy."
