Lujan Statement on Supreme Court Decision on Title VII

Statement

Date: June 15, 2020
Location: Nambe, NM

U.S. House Assistant Speaker Ben Ray Luján (D-N.M.) issued the following statement on the Supreme Court's ruling that federal employment discrimination laws provide protection for LGBTQ+ workers.

"Today's decision is a hard-fought victory for LGBTQ+ Americans. No longer can LGBTQ+ workers be fired or face retaliation over who they are and whom they love. While this ruling should be celebrated, it also serves as a reminder of the long way we still have to go as a country. That's why I voted to pass the Equality Act to ensure that LGBTQ+ individuals are protected from discrimination in all facets of American life. It's time for the Senate to take up this critical legislation to give every American the dignity and justice they deserve."
