Hagedorn Announces Grants for Precision Agriculture Training Programs

Today, the National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) unveiled a grant of nearly half a million dollars over the course of three years for South Central College in North Mankato to develop an Advanced Agriculture Technology (AAT) program. This 16-credit certificate program will equip students with the training needed to operate high-tech precision agriculture equipment through a combination of the school's agribusiness and mechatronics curricula.

South Central College was one of 12 schools selected out of more than 30 applicants by NIFA to promote workforce training at community colleges, provide students opportunities to learn in job simulation environments, and enhance students' skill sets and appeal to employers through a two-year degree or industry recognized credential.

"South Central College is a fine southern Minnesota institution, and I am thrilled that USDA recognizes the terrific work the school is doing to expand our skilled labor force and provide innovative services that will be a boon to our rural communities for many years to come," said Hagedorn.
