Rep. Cisneros Statement on the Death of George Floyd

Press Release

Date: May 31, 2020
Location: Fullerton, CA

Today, Representative Gilbert R. Cisneros, Jr. (CA-39) released the following statement on the death of George Floyd.

"I'm outraged by the senseless and tragic deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and countless others who have been persecuted because of the color of their skin. My heart goes out to their families and loved ones. We need change, and there must be accountability. The trust between our law enforcement and the communities they serve and protect is so critical in keeping everyone safe. It's incidents like these that erode that trust. We must work together to enact meaningful reform, focus on de-escalation training, and rebuild and strengthen trust.

"Our country is grieving, and I hear the frustration. The right to protest is one of our fundamental rights. Martin Luther King, Jr. and my colleague, Rep John Lewis, have shown us what we can achieve through peaceful, non-violent protest. Let us live by their example. Let us continue to demand justice and equality for all."
