To Help Local Governments Recover from COVID-19, Lowey Announces $4.1 Million in Federal Emergency Solutions Grants for Westchester County

Congresswoman Nita Lowey (D-NY17/Rockland-Westchester) today announced $4,169,699 in federal funds for Westchester County from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development's ESG program funded in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
ESG provides funding to states and entitlement communities, which in turn distribute resources to local government entities, nonprofit organizations, public housing authorities, and local redevelopment authorities that provide services to people experiencing homelessness. ESG supports short- and medium-term rental assistance, homelessness prevention activities, training for staff on disease prevention and mitigation, quality emergency homeless shelters, and hazard pay.
"Westchester County was one of the United States' first major coronavirus hotspots, and the unprecedented strain it has placed on our community will be felt for years," said Congresswoman Lowey. "With the high cost of living across the Lower Hudson Valley, too many New Yorkers including seniors, the disabled, low income families with children, and veterans, were already struggling to find or maintain housing security and access economic opportunities prior to this pandemic. This federal funding will provide Westchester with flexible, rapid investments that are responsive to community needs and help New Yorkers regain stability."
