Congressman Biggs' Statement on May's Incredible Jobs Report

Statement

Date: June 5, 2020
Location: Gilbert, AZ

Today, the U.S. Department of Labor released the May Employment Situation Summary, showing an increase of 2.5 million jobs and a decreased unemployment rate to 13.3%. Experts had predicted that there would be over 8 million jobs lost and an unemployment rate of over 19%. Congressman Biggs issued the following statement:

"After almost three months of economic and societal doom and gloom, the American economy is coming back thanks to President Donald Trump's leadership and optimism. Before the COVID-19 outbreak, the nation's economy was the strongest in the world, and millions of Americans were prospering thanks to the pro-growth policies of the Trump administration. Unfortunately, the economy took a devastating shock due to state and local officials' draconian and unconstitutional lockdown policies to combat the COVID-19 hysteria. Thankfully, we are recovering from this national nightmare. Today's news shows the jobs increases occurring in the private sector, while jobs in the government sector are sharply declining, laying the foundation for a robust economic recovery.

"Americans trust President Donald Trump and his administration to lead the great American comeback. President Trump understands that a strong and prosperous economy is built on pro-growth policies, such as deregulation and tax cuts. I have full faith in the president to rekindle our paused economic momentum, and I hope my colleagues in Congress will join me in wishing for his success in this endeavor."
