Peterson Announces Winners of 2020 Congressional Art

Press Release

Date: June 4, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Collin C. Peterson is pleased to announce the winner of the Congressional Art Competition from Minnesota's Seventh Congressional District.

Heidi Brouwer of Raymond is this year's winner of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition, for her painting, "Hope." Heidi attends Central Minnesota Christian School of Prinsburg. She will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. to view her work alongside other winners from across the country.

Second place was awarded to Lauren Ammerman of Renville for her scratch board, "Yak."

The third place selection was by Keyanna Niesen of Clara City, a painting titled, "Memories of Grandpa."

"This competition fosters the creativity of high school students across the Seventh District," Rep. Peterson said. "I congratulate Heidi on this accomplishment and thank every student who participated in this year's competition."

The winners were selected from a total of 82 entries submitted from across the Seventh District. This was one of the largest number of submissions received for the competition, despite the deadline occurring after Minnesota schools moved online in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

A "People's Choice Award" will also be selected, based on votes on Congressman Peterson's Facebook page. That selection will be announced later.

Each spring, a nationwide high school arts competition is sponsored by members of the U.S. House of Representatives.

The first-place winner's artwork will be displayed for one year in the U.S. Capitol, and the exhibit in Washington will also include artwork from participating districts across the country. The second place artwork will be displayed in the Congressman's Detroit Lakes, Minn., office and the third place submission will hang in the Congressman's office in Willmar.
