As Airports Face Financial Struggle, Mucarsel-Powell Announces Over $228 Million For South Florida Airports

Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), member of the Transportation and Infrastructure Committee, announced that the U.S. Department of Transportation has awarded a total of $228,907,254 to South Florida airports to address the COVID-19 crisis as the aviation sector grapples with the most steep and potentially sustained decline in air travel in history. These funds will help airport operators meet ongoing needs and manage current construction projects as operating expenses increase and revenues plummet.

"The coronavirus pandemic has impacted every sector of our society, and I am pleased that we were able to include this much-needed emergency aid to airports in our district as they confront this health and economic crisis," said Mucarsel-Powell. "South Florida is heavily dependent on these transportation hubs to receive critical aid and help our economy recover. We have to make sure they have the necessary funds to stay afloat during these tough times so our economy can return to normal when this crisis passes."

Miami Homestead General Aviation X51 is receiving $30,000 of this funding, Miami Executive TMB is receiving $69,000, Miami International Airport is receiving $206,949,557, Key West International Airport is receiving $21,789,697, and FL Keys Marathon International is receiving $69,000. The federal funds are provided by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.
