Langevin Statement on Protests Following the Death of George Floyd

Press Release

Date: June 1, 2020
Location: Warwick, RI

Congressman Jim Langevin (D-RI) today issued the following statement regarding the death of George Floyd and the ongoing demonstrations happening across the country:

"To those who have joined demonstrations calling for justice for George Floyd, his loved ones, and others who have lost their lives unjustly: we hear you, and we mourn with you. Tensions are high and people are justifiably outraged over the countless incidents of injustice and discrimination against minorities and communities of color. It is clear we need a system of justice that works for everyone and underpins accountability.

"Now more than ever, we must extend our hands to our neighbors, embrace each other, and live with respect and compassion. Just as we have in the face of adversity and turmoil throughout our history, we will persevere and come out stronger by uniting. We should look for common ground and embrace peace rather than turn to violence and division. We need to come together as a country to heal."
