Congressman John Joyce, M.D. (PA-13) issued the following statement on his appointment to the China Task Force initiated by U.S. House of Representatives Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy.

"It is an honor to join the China Task Force as we lead Congress' strategy on China. In the wake of the coronavirus pandemic, it is imperative that America continues to strengthen our supply chain, pursue fairer trade deals with China, and hold the Chinese Communist Party accountable for its actions," said Dr. Joyce. "As the only physician serving on the task force, I am looking forward to delving into opportunities to strengthen and protect our supply chain for pharmaceuticals and other critical medical equipment, especially personal protective equipment (PPE). Americans simply cannot be beholden to the Chinese Communist Party to provide our health care supplies. I am grateful to Leader McCarthy for offering me this opportunity to serve the American people in this capacity."

The China Task Force will examine China's role in ongoing policy debates and pursue legislative solutions.

"As a doctor with more than 25 years caring for patients, John brings a deep knowledge of our medical system to a task force whose first priority is to figure out how we can bring our medical supply chain back to America," said Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy. "Our dependency on China for PPE, medicine, and other crucial supplies is a national security and public health threat, and we need to look beyond the challenges of today to address the problems of tomorrow. His work on the Homeland Security Committee will also serve as a tremendous asset in this new role. I am confident that with John's experience and expertise our task force is poised to deliver legislative solutions that will keep America safer for decades to come."
