Location: Washington, DC

Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas) today announced Southwest Sandhills Water Supply Corporation in Ward County will receive a $650,000 low-interest loan through the U.S. Department of Agriculture's (USDA) Water & Waste Disposal Loan & Grant Program.

"Investing in infrastructure for our rural communities not only creates jobs, it significantly improves the public health and safety for those living in these communities. This USDA investment illustrates the importance of our rural communities. Ample clean water sources for drinking, economic activities, recreation and an overall healthy ecosystem will help Texan families and businesses today and far into the future," said Hurd.

"These investments will bring modern, reliable water and wastewater infrastructure to rural communities. They will replace deteriorating, leaking water pipes with new ones and upgrade water handling systems that are decades old. These investments create jobs and improve public health and safety for our rural neighbors," said Bette Brand, USDA Deputy Under Secretary for Rural Development.

This rural development investment will help Southwest Sandhills Water Supply Corporation to refinance an existing agency loan at a lower interest rate, allowing them to pay off the debt sooner and keep user rates reasonable while continuing to maintain the water system.
