Congressman Gonzalez Urges Texas Leadership to Reconsider Hemming Emergency Powers of Cities During Pandemic

Today, Congressman Vicente Gonzalez (TX-15) released a statement in response to Texas leadership's proposal to hem city's emergency powers:

"I am deeply concerned by Governor Greg Abbott and Lieutenant Governor Dan Patrick's decision to limit local governments' ability to manage future crises. Undercutting the powers of our cities and counties is dangerous as they know their constituents best. Just as governors feel they are in a better position than the federal government to make decisions for their states, mayors feel the same for their cities. I urge the Governor and Lieutenant Governor to reconsider this action and continue to allow for municipalities to make their own decisions on when and how to open safely."
