Location: Washington, DC

U.S. Congressman Brian Babin (TX-36) issued the following statement after speaking with the U.S. Secretary of Transportation, Elaine Chao, about the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration's (FMCSA) new hours of service (HOS) rules issued today for America's truckers.

"As the Congressman from a district where reliable and up-to-date transportation is so vital to the success of our economy, I'm pleased about the Department of Transportation's new HOS rules to help our nation's truck drivers who have been so essential during the ongoing pandemic," said Babin. "While we may have lost the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) issue several years ago, these new HOS guidelines will be a huge help for drivers all across the country by granting them more flexibility to take their mandatory rest breaks when it's best suitable for them, enabling them to drive in better weather and traffic conditions, improving the safety of our highways, and much more. My staff and I have worked tirelessly with Secretary Chao and her staff, the Owner-Operator Independent Drivers Association (OOIDA), the American Trucking Association (ATA), the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee Chairman, Peter DeFazio, and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Ranking Member, Sam Graves, to make this happen.
