Collins: Paycheck Protection Program a Lifeline for Small Businesses

Statement

Rep. Doug Collins (R-Ga.) released the following statement after the House passed an additional $310 billion for the Paycheck Protection Program, which ran out of funding last week.

"For weeks, President Trump, his Administration, and small businesses across America have been asking Congress to pass additional funding for the Paycheck Protection Program, but Democrats refused to set aside their partisan agendas and put American workers first. While Congress could have been working to respond to the demand, Nancy Pelosi and Chuck Schumer delayed what could have been a quick, bipartisan response. Because of their lack of action, small businesses have faced a week without access to this crucial funding and an additional 4.4 million Americans have filed for unemployment.

"Despite the delay, I'm relieved this additional funding is finally headed to the President's desk to be signed immediately. The Paycheck Protection Program is a lifeline for small businesses, already saving an estimated 30 million jobs nationwide. This additional funding will allow American workers to continue receiving a paycheck and will help ensure our small businesses weather this crisis."

The Paycheck Protection Program and Health Care Enhancement Act provides $310 billion in additional funds for the Paycheck Protection Program, $60 billion in economic injury disaster loans and grants, $75 billion for hospitals and health care providers, and $25 billion for expanded testing and research.
