Kennedy Calls for Independent Investigation Into Violent Incident at Bristol County Jail

Following a violent altercation at the Bristol County House of Corrections last night, Congressman Joe Kennedy III called for an immediate, independent investigation into reports from victims, lawyers, and immigration advocates that Sheriff Thomas Hodgson and his deputies assaulted a group of ICE detainees held at the facility. Additionally, Kennedy demanded that every detainee present last night be given immediate access to counsel and for the public release of any surveillance footage.

"Given the conflicting reports coming from all involved, there needs to be an immediate, independent investigation into what occurred last night at the Bristol County House of Corrections. All people held at this facility deserve to be treated with humanity and dignity. We need an independent investigation and the release of surveillance footage to ascertain exactly what happened and ensure accountability."

Last night reports broke of a violent altercation at the Bristol County House of Corrections involving immigrant detainees. Conflicting reports have emerged between Bristol County Sheriff Thomas Hodgson and the detainees and their lawyers. Kennedy remains in close touch with those involved on the ground as the situation develops.
