Graves Announces Nearly $52 Million in Airport Grants to Louisiana's 6th Congressional District Area

U.S. Congressman Garret Graves, Ranking Member of the House Subcommittee on Aviation, announced $51,334,400 in federal funding today for airports in the surrounding areas of Louisiana's 6th Congressional District. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) dollars were made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

"Our airports have taken a pounding during this COVID-19 pandemic. Commercial air travel has decreased by more than 90 percent. Travel and tourism is a very important part of our economy," Graves said. "We must make sure our airports and entire transportation system are ready to reignite our economy."

Congressmen Steve Scalise and Cedric Richmond issued the following statements about the grant provided for the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport:

"This $43 million grant is welcome news for the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, and our local economy. Congress provided this relief in the CARES Act to help airports get through this pandemic and ensure critical infrastructure needs are met during a time of financial strain. I am glad to see this funding being invested wisely in Louisiana," Scalise said.

"This is critically important funding to help stabilize the airport. We are doing our part to bring as many resources as we can to the state," Richmond said.
