Byrne Opposes Creation of Partisan Coronavirus Committee Disguised as Oversight

Statement

Congressman Bradley Byrne (R-AL) issued the following statement after voting against a Democratic proposal to create a partisan coronavirus investigative House subcommittee.

Congressman Byrne said: "While it is important Congress continue real-time evaluations of the ongoing response to the coronavirus, we should not be distracted from fighting this disease by expensive, duplicative, and overtly partisan efforts to score political points. We already have eight oversight committees, plus an Inspector General, capable of investigating the various aspects of our coronavirus response. House Democrats have already wasted millions on meaningless investigations in an effort to remove President Trump from office, and we cannot condone further efforts to waste taxpayer dollars on these politically motivated fishing expeditions."

In January, Byrne introduce the Statement of Harm to the American Majority (SHAM) Act to conduct an audit of the use of funds and loss of government productivity for both the Legislative Branch and the Executive Branch due to the impeachment inquiry and trial of President Trump. The audit must include costs, time spent, expenses, and estimations on loss of productivity.
