The Departments of Homeland Security (DHS) and Health and Human Services (HHS) announced two separate grant awards, one for Colorado and the other specifically for healthcare facilities in Colorado's Third District. Congressman Scott Tipton (CO-03), who has advocated for additional resources in rural communities during the COVID-19 outbreak, welcomed both announcements.

"I have been fighting on behalf of rural Coloradans and urging federal agencies to prioritize these communities' needs in their response to the COVID-19 crisis," said Tipton. "I am glad to see FEMA and HHS address the areas I have identified, especially the critical need for PPE and ventilators. Expediting delivery of resources to the healthcare providers on the front lines of this epidemic and providing immediate assistance to families and businesses must continue to be prioritized."

DHS announced over $16.68 million in grants administered by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the state of Colorado to expedite receipt of personal protective equipment and ventilators for hospitals, medical clinics, city and county governments. This money was released as part of Colorado's major disaster declaration. Late last month, Tipton wrote a letter to President Trump indicating the state of Colorado had only received enough PPE and ventilators through FEMA's national stockpile for one full day of operation.

HHS announced over $6.8 million dollars for nine community health centers across Colorado's Third District. Tipton has repeatedly called for additional resources in areas of the state often underserved even during normal circumstances.

Last week, Tipton joined with other members from Colorado's congressional delegation to draw attention to continued funding for Critical Access Hospitals and Community Health Centers.
