Reschenthaler Applauds Sen. Toomey's "PA Starts Up Safely" Framework

Statement

Date: April 24, 2020
Location: Washington, D.C.

Congressman Guy Reschenthaler (PA-14) released the following statement in support of Senator Pat Toomey's "PA Starts Up Safely" framework to reopen Pennsylvania's economy:

"Senator Toomey's proposal takes a balanced and smart approach to safely reopening Pennsylvania. Each region across the Commonwealth has experienced COVID-19 differently, so the plan to reopen must include a data-based, responsive framework that allows Pennsylvanians to safely return to work as quickly as possible, while still protecting our seniors and vulnerable individuals. Senator Toomey's framework takes into account the capacity of our health care systems when encouraging some level of economic activity to resume immediately. Further, it allows doctors and hospitals to resume elective procedures as long as safety benchmarks are in place, which is critical to ensuring they have the revenue to keep their doors open, and supports expanded and improved testing for at-risk health care workers such as those in nursing homes.

"We can and must account for both our public health and our economic health as we determine the process for returning to normal life. I encourage Governor Wolf to consider Senator Toomey's framework as we work to safely reopen Pennsylvania."
