Rep. Rouda Announces More Than $1 Billion in Coronavirus Relief for California K-12 Education

Today, Congressman Harley Rouda (CA-48) announced K-12 schools in California would receive $1,647,306,127 in emergency funding as a result of the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act.

States and school districts can use the funding for a wide range of purposes, including purchasing computers, hot spot devices, and cleaning supplies to sanitize school facilities. Funds can also be used to provide professional development for educators, support summer programs, and promote access to quality instruction for students with disabilities.

"Educators are working around the clock to bring their classrooms into the homes of Orange County families," said Rouda. "These critical funds will help ensure every student has the resources needed to access our county's world-class education during the coronavirus crisis."

The districts, students, teachers, and staff represented by Congressman Rouda will benefit from receiving computers, hotspots, educational materials as well as professional development for our teachers as they continue to provide high-quality instruction through distance learning," said Martha Fluor, President of Newport Mesa Unified School District.

The CARES Act provided a total of $30.75 billion in emergency education relief to help students, educators, schools, and states maintain access to education during the COVID-19 public health crisis.
