Loebsack Welcomes Additional $3.7 Million Investment in Community Health Centers

Statement

Congressman Dave Loebsack released the following statement today after the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced an additional round of grants for community health centers located across Iowa's Second Congressional District. These grants come from the Health Center funding in the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which was the third piece of legislation passed by Congress in response to the COVID-19 virus. These funds are in addition to the funding they already receive from the federal government and meant to directly help combat the COVID-19 virus. Details are below.

"Community health centers are on the frontlines in the fight against the COVID-19 virus. It is imperative that we ensure they have the tools and resources necessary to properly care for Iowans in this time of need," said Loebsack. "The COVID-19 virus has affected many folks across our state, and we must allow everyone, no matter their financial situation, to have access to the healthcare they need. I will continue my efforts to ensure Iowans receive the healthcare they need in order to stay safe and healthy."

Specifically, funding provided in the CARES Act for community health centers in Iowa's Second District, includes:

- Burlington -- $808,490 for Community Health Centers of Southeastern Iowa, Inc.
- Davenport -- $1,233,420 for Community Health Care, Inc.
- Leon -- $713,615 for Community Health Centers of Southern Iowa, Inc.
- Ottumwa -- $976,040 for River Hills Community Health Center, Inc.

COVID-19 BACKGROUND

Last month, Congressman Loebsack helped pass one of the most significant relief packages in our country's history, the bipartisan Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, to help combat the spread of the COVID-19 illness, also known as the novel coronavirus. This legislation contains provisions to make health care affordable and accessible, bolster the health care system, protect frontline response workers, support small businesses and assist states and local governments.

Since the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus began, Congressman Loebsack has helped pass three significant pieces of bipartisan legislation in response. The three bills include the Coronavirus Preparedness and Response Supplemental Appropriations Act of 2020, Families First Coronavirus Response Act and the CARES Act. Discussions regarding the contents of a fourth legislative package are ongoing.
