Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), released the following statement after the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) announced over $10.5 million in Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Airport Program grants for Northeast Tennessee airports:

"Our region's airports are essential for the economic security of our region. Relief for our rural airports will help them weather this public health crisis and continue to serve the region when our economy reopens. I applaud the Trump administration for acting quickly to distribute CARES Act funding to Northeast Tennessee airports. Our country will reopen soon and this money will ensure our region's airports can continue keeping East Tennesseans connected for their businesses and for their personal travel."

Note: The CARES Act provided $10 billion in economic relief for airports amid the coronavirus pandemic. Rep. Roe was present to support the CARES Act when it passed the House by voice on March 27, 2020, and was signed into law by President Trump that same day. The individual grants awarded by DOT are as follows:

$10,300,692 -- Tri-Cities Airport (TRI)
$69,000 -- Elizabethton Municipal Airport (0A9)
$69,000 -- Moore-Murrell Airport (MOR)
$69,000 -- Gatlinburg-Pigeon Forge Airport (GKT)
$30,000 -- Greeneville-Greene County Municipal Airport (GCY)
