Today, Rep. Phil Roe, M.D. (R-Tenn.), released the following statement after the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced the agency would award Community Development Block Grants (CDBG) totaling $859,423 to Bristol, Johnson City, Kingsport and Morristown to help communities provide support services to vulnerable populations on April 2:

"Our local communities' resources are stretched thin as they respond to the coronavirus public health crisis, so this funding is coming at a crucial time. I am pleased the Trump administration is quickly directing a portion of the housing funds provided by the CARES Act to Northeast Tennessee. Our communities are experiencing challenges ensuring low- and moderate-income families have the support services they need during this difficult time. This grant money will help our local communities protect their vulnerable populations during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic."

Note: Rep. Roe was present to support the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act when it passed the House by voice on March 27, 2020, and was signed into law by President Trump that same day. CDBGs provide financial resources to state and local governments to address their needs in the community. The individual grants awarded by HUD are as follows:

Bristol - $115,966.00
Johnson City - $313,560.00
Kingsport - $249,332.00
Morristown - $180,565.00
