Duncan Opposes FISA Reauthorization

Statement

Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Jeff Duncan (SC-03) strongly opposed the USA Freedom Reauthorization Act of 2020 which reauthorizes the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA).

"It's completely foolish for Congress to consider a FISA reauthorization without a serious and lengthy debate on critical reforms needed to protect the rights of every American. In 2016, we saw how FISA was weaponized by political elements within the DOJ and FBI to spy on the Trump Campaign using a fake dossier. To this day, no one has been held accountable for these egregious actions! So, why should we reauthorize a program that would allow these same deep state actors to continue unabated? It's totally unacceptable. It's also important to remember -- if political opponents were able to spy on a presidential campaign they didn't like, they can do it to anyone. We can't let that happen."
