Craig Reacts to State of the Union Address

Location: Washington, DC

Praises President's plan for economic and national security

WASHINGTON, DC - Idaho Senator Larry Craig had the following reaction to the President's State of the Union Address this evening. Craig praised the President's bold plan for economic and national security. Audio comments and a satellite feed will be available following the speech.
"I think what we and the American people heard tonight was a President who is being bold and who is challenging both Congress and the American people to stay with him and stand with him on some very critical issues: obviously, getting this economy moving, creating jobs, getting people back to work, and dealing with the critical issue of health care primarily for our seniors - many who cannot get it now because of the cost of prescription drugs. Those are significant challenges.

"One challenge I think most people were waiting to hear more about is what is going to happen as it relates to Iraq, international peace, and domestic peace and security. The President again was very, very bold. He is not going to let a murderer like Saddam Hussein get away by simply walking away. The reality is if we don't reach out and create a more secure world beyond our boundaries, then we really do remain at risk here at home. We shouldn't forget September 11th and all that did and the lives that it took. The President was bold, he challenged us on two very significant fronts, and I applaud him for it."
