Congressman Boyle Applauds Big Win for Jobs in Philly

Press Release

Date: April 8, 2020
Location: Philadelphia, PA

Congressman Brendan F. Boyle (PA-02) applauds the contract award to the Philly Shipyard for the construction of up to five National Security Multi-Mission Vessels (NSMV) from TOTE Services, LLC (TOTE), an industry leader in ship management, marine operations and vessel services. This contract award results in 1,200 good paying jobs.

Congressman Boyle was a vocal advocate in support of bringing these jobs to Philadelphia. He recently endorsed a letter in support of the shipbuilding contract application submitted by Philly Shipyard to receive grant funding under the U.S. Maritime Administration's Small Shipyard Grant Program. The projects commissioned under this contract will have an immediate impact on Philly Shipyard's productivity, efficiency and competitiveness.

"This contract award will ensure 1,200 good paying, shipyard jobs will be right here in Pennsylvania, where they belong", said Congressman Boyle. "The shipbuilding trade in Philadelphia enjoys long and successful history. This contract awarded to Philly Shipyards will continue that storied tradition as a lead ship building facility that also contributes to reinforcing our national security and ultimately making us safer from imminent threats."

The initial award is valued at approximately $630 million and supports non-recurring engineering and detail design of the NSMV class as well as procurement of equipment and materials and construction of the first two ships. If all five ships are ordered and built in series, then the total contract value of the 5-ship program would be approximately $1.5 billion.
