Moulton Announces $2 million in Coronavirus Response Grants for Local Health Centers

Today, Representative Seth Moulton (D-MA) announced that two local health centers will receive more than $2 million in grants from the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security Act, or CARES Act, the sweeping economic stimulus and disaster relief bill Congress passed in response to the coronavirus pandemic.

"Health care workers are on the front line, and local clinics are maxing out their reserve funds to respond to the coronavirus. These grants will help health clinics meet the moment and keep us safe," Moulton said. "There are still far too many people lacking protective equipment and tools that keep people alive like respirators. I'm going to keep fighting for the heroes in our community saving lives and so every American can get tested and treated for the coronavirus."

The North Shore Community Health, Inc. will receive $809,600.

The Lynn Community Health, Inc. will receive $1,288,115.

The health clinics will receive these grants through the Department of Health and Human Services.

The CARES Act is the largest federal stimulus package ever enacted and includes funding for everything from grants to health centers, to small business disaster relief, to individual relief checks for Americans.

Today, Congress is negotiating the next round of funding. Moulton has advocated for this round to include emergency relief for nonprofits, and funding to make mental health care easier to access.

Yesterday, he wrote a letter to House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Richard Neal, urging Neal to include Moulton's bill to support nonprofits, the SOS America Act, in the next round.

Moulton also hosted a Facebook Live Town Hall with the chief medical officer of the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention to call attention for the need to make mental health care easier to access while people are socially isolated.

Moulton's bill, the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline Designation Act, would create an easy to remember three-digit number every American could call in a mental health emergency and fund additional resources for call centers.
