Mucarsel-Powell Hosts Another Round Of Conference Calls To Update South Florida Pastors, Community Health Centers and Hospitals, Non-Profits & Community Leaders On COVID-19 Response Efforts

Statement

Today, U.S. Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell (FL-26), as part of larger outreach effort, hosted a series of calls with stakeholders in South Florida to give an update on coronavirus relief efforts, answer questions, and hear from the community about what else is needed from Congress. Mucarsel-Powell took note of concerns from South Florida pastors, local and community health centers as well as non-profits and Miami-Dade elected officials that could possibly be addressed in a fourth stimulus package to be passed by Congress.

"I'm continually amazed by the ability of our community to come together to respond to a crisis," said Mucarsel-Powell. "Today, I heard from pastors who are taking the necessary social distancing precautions to protect their congregants yet still managing to provide spiritual comfort through technology. I spoke with local non-profits who, despite facing increasing financial burdens, are continuing to serve our communities in this time of need. I touched base with our local leaders in Miami-Dade who continue to keep me updated on the issues they're seeing, and who are working all day every day to take care of everyone in South Florida. I was privileged to have a conversation with some of our local health professionals who are on the frontlines of this pandemic, and I recommitted to continue fighting to get them the equipment they need to stay safe and to take care of patients. These are the everyday heroes who make South Florida what it is."

Mucarsel-Powell has stated that the first three stimulus packages to address coronavirus are not perfect, and that there is still much that needs to be addressed to fully combat the consequences of the coronavirus pandemic. She is working with her colleagues to pass a fourth stimulus package that will address the remaining concerns she is hearing from constituents and local leaders on these calls, including free treatment for coronavirus, a six-month direct payment for adults making less than $75,000, support for postal workers, help for our farmers and increased election security measures.
