Statement by Congressman Dan Kildee on Gov. Whitmer "Stay Home, Stay Safe" Executive Order

Statement

Date: March 23, 2020
Location: Washington, DC

Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-05), Chief Deputy Whip of the House Democratic Caucus, issued the following statement after Gov. Gretchen Whitmer issued a "Stay Home, Stay Safe" executive order directing non-essential business operations to suspend, as well directing Michiganders to stay in their homes unless they are performing essential tasks to protect health and safety:

"Governor Whitmer made the difficult but right choice to protect public health and reduce the spread of coronavirus in Michigan. It is important for Michiganders to know that this is temporary, and you are allowed to perform essential tasks such as getting groceries, going to medical appointments or getting recreational exercise outside while continuing to practice social distancing.

"As Michiganders, we are all in this together. If everyone follows the Governor's directives, we can bend the curve on this disease. I am in regular contact with the Governor and at the federal level I will continue to do everything I can to support Michigan workers and small businesses whose lives have been disrupted by the coronavirus pandemic."
