Kinzinger Leads Effort to Protect American Space Assets

Press Release

This week, Congressman Adam Kinzinger (R-IL) introduced H.R. 6208, the Protecting American Space Assets Act to ensure the United States remains the leader in civilian and military programs. This bipartisan bill was introduced by Representatives Kinzinger, Liz Cheney (R-WY), Mike Rogers (R-AL), Jason Crow (D-CO), Cheri Bustos (D-IL), and Mike Turner (R-OH). The text of the bill would direct the Department of Defense to develop a strategy to protect military and commercial space assets of the United States and those of our allies. This is critical to ensuring navigation routes for satellites are safe from interference from bad actors around the world who have such capabilities.

"For far too long, China has undercut our domestic manufacturing sector to make us more reliant on their technology. But American manufacturing is on the rise and our advancements in technology need to be protected from this harassment by bad actors like China and Russia," said Congressman Kinzinger (R-IL). "So, I'm proud to introduce this legislation with my colleagues as we work to better protect America's cyber infrastructure and put ourselves and our allies on a better foot forward in modernizing our activities in space."

"It is vital to U.S. national security that we retain dominance in space. With the rise of cyber-attacks, stolen intellectual property, and attempts to counter our satellites, our strategy in space is more important than ever. By ensuring access to space, strong commercial space operations, and a robust industrial base we can help maintain our leadership in this pivotal new frontier," said Congressman Crow (D-CO). "The Protecting American Space Assets Act will ensure that we are placing our space strategy at the forefront of our national security planning to guarantee that the U.S. remains the leader in space. I'm proud to support this effort."

"The Rockford aerospace industry has played a key role in research, development and manufacturing to help our military men and women achieve their mission and remain safe. As the importance of space grows for both national security and the commercial sector, it's crucial we continue to tap into the resources and expertise offered by communities with a proven track record in the aerospace industry -- including communities like Rockford," said Congresswoman Bustos (D-IL). "I'm proud to join my colleagues across the aisle on this issue."
