Letter to the Hon. Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House, and the Hon. Kevin McCarthy, House Minority Leader - Reps. Zeldin, Stefanik, King, Katko Urge SALT Deduction Relief in Next Possible Coronavirus Response Legislation

Letter

Dear Speaker Pelosi and Minority Leader McCarthy,

As Congress considers any further legislation regarding a response to COVID-19, we ask that it include state and local tax (SALT) deduction relief.

Considering the State of New York has been one of the states hit hardest by coronavirus, immediate SALT deduction relief will deliver desperately needed tax aid when it is most needed, providing critical financial help to working families during these difficult times.

All levels of government have a role to play to provide tax relief to New Yorkers, especially Albany, but now is a time when state and local governments are facing serious funding issues, and any added tax liability assistance for New Yorkers from the federal government would help the economic crisis that we all face.

New York State and our local governments are on the frontlines addressing this issue, and the federal government can further aid our constituents by providing SALT deduction relief.

This pandemic is unlike any challenge our country has seen before. We must do all we can to provide relief for New Yorkers who have been disproportionately affected. Easing their federal income tax burden will provide one less financial obstacle for them.

We appreciate your consideration for this much needed relief for our constituents.
