Tonight, after Congressman Tim Ryan's urging, the U.S. Department of Treasury reversed its order and will now allow Social Security recipients who typically do not file taxes to receive their $1,200 check automatically without needing to submit any additional documents.

"Every American who qualifies deserves to receive a check, and no one should have to jump through additional hoops to get it -- especially our seniors. We should be making this process easier for our seniors who have been the hardest hit by the coronavirus, not harder. I am thankful that the Trump Administration heeded our calls and reversed this backward directive and that our seniors will now receive their $1,200 without any further action required," said Congressman Ryan.

This reversal comes after calls from Ryan and other elected officials on both sides of the aisle, and less than a week after the International Revenue Service (IRS) made their announcement that in order to receive a check, individuals needed to have filed some sort of tax return.
